 The first Caroline’s Room was established in 1998 in the New Born
Special Care Unit (NICU) ofYale–New
Haven Children’s Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut. This room
features custom-ordered furniture, seating for a least six (with room
for more chairs if they are brought in), an Oriental rug, a Waterford
lamp, wallpaper, and a Corian sink and countertop. The room’s
traditional elegance is enhanced by an original oil painting and Marc
Chagall prints. The cost to create Caroline’s Room at Yale was
approximately $30,000. The funds were raised by a fashion show and auction,
which had the support of several corporate donors as well as excellent
media coverage.
