Creating a Caroline’s Room does take money. But there are many ways to raise the necessary funds. Bottom line – where there’s a will, there's a way!
The Caroline’s Rooms that have been built to date have all relied on creative fundraising ideas to turn dreams to realities. Here are some tips, and examples of ideas that have been implemented:
• Corporate sponsorships have been established (particularly drug companies that provide medicines to NICU’s or manufacturers of baby supplies).
• Donations from local corporations, foundations, and individuals have been solicited, as well as philanthropic donations, and grants from foundations or civic groups.
• Well-known community individuals have served as honorary chairpersons for fundraising events. Their presence and prestige helped drive both ticket sales and corporate sponsorships.
• Gala events such as fashion shows and auctions have been held. Fashion shows have featured the hospital's professional staff as its "supermodels." A local department store provided the clothing as well as the producer, music, stage, and lighting for one event. Corporate sponsors, a major donor, and local businesses all supported these very festive and highly successful fundraisers.
• A medical symposium was offered that enabled medical personnel to support the cause while getting credit for their continuing education requirements. The local chapter of the March of Dimes Foundation coordinated the fundraising and managed the accounting for this event.
• The Ronald McDonald Charities directly funded one room with a grant of $10,000, thanks to the encouragement of the March of Dimes Foundation.
Another resource may be hospital auxiliaries. It is noteworthy that local March of Dimes chapters have been instrumental in developing and raising funds for some Caroline’s Rooms; your local chapter may be of assistance.
