Caroline’s Room in the NICU at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock,
Texas, was established in 2002. This is the largest of the Caroline’s
Rooms to date, and actually consists of two connected rooms. Each room
has the ambience of a traditional living room and contains ample seating.
One of the
rooms has a sleep sofa that parents can use on the night before taking
their child home. Lamps, custom window treatments, artwork, and wallpaper
make the rooms cozy and elegant. Covenant Medical Center absorbed the
cost of the rooms’ reconstruction and painting. The interior designer
donated her professional services and a local furniture retailergreatly
reduced the price of the furniture. Funds for this Caroline’s
Room, and for the Caroline’s Room at University Medical Center
at Texas Tech University (also in Lubbock), were raised over one weekend
of fundraising that included a fashion show and auction as well as a
medical symposium. The Lubbock Chapter of the March of Dimes Foundation
coordinated the fundraising events and managed all of the accounting
for the Covenant Medical Center and University Medical Center at Texas
Tech Caroline’s Rooms. The combined cost of the Covenant and Texas
Tech rooms was $30,000.
